Scorpion walked steadily through the halls, his head hanging at a casual angle, almost a straight line down his body. His ears flopped a little as he walked; he was in no hurry, and he certainly was relaxed. Even his massive, abnormal tail was unfurled so it almost touched the floor behind his hocks, swaying absently from side to side.
The brute turned out the main hall, nodding once to the two sentries positioned outside the castle. He'd been locked away indoors for quite some time now; most of the day, and at least all of the day for several days in a row. He needed fresh air and sunshine, and a good, crisp mouthful of grass wouldn't hurt.
He wouldn't have it any other way, though, really. He had only been locked away to smooth out issues with the neighboring kingdoms, and he'd much rather be mentally drained and have a safe country than be perfectly stimulated, but have failed in his duties.
Scorpion let out a heavy snort as the clopping of his massive hooves on the stone floors of the castle gave way to soft thuds as he stepped onto the dirt walkway outside. His flank shivered a little as fresh sunlight spilled over it, beginning to heat his dark pelt. Feeling rejuvenated by this first flood of fresh, crisp air, Scorpion broke into a partially involuntary trot, his tail furling back up a little. His stride was long and even, and he moved lightly, despite being one of the heaviest horses he knew. His ears perked a little; he'd almost forgotten the joy of the scent of grass. Well, not really. But it was still nice to smell nonetheless. Snorting briefly again, he turned down the road towards the grazing fields. Perhaps he could hunt down Saosin or Tarot and engage in some much-needed mutual grooming, or even just a casual conversation over some juicy leaves.

The young leader slowed to a walk as he entered the fields. It was such a relief to be able to relax after having to look after his kingdom. Saosin sometimes thought he worked too hard, but it was all for good reason. He didn't want to be known as the leader who didn't care, or a reckless one. The equine had worked all of his younger years towards becoming leader; now he planned on being a damn good one.
Saosin bent his head towards the ground, taking in some of the delicious grass. The other kingdoms probably thought vegetation to be bland, but Saosin thought it was quite the opposite. There was such a variety of grasses, all with different flavours. Saosin actually preffered the common grass, not really caring for any more exotic flavored grasses. After a couple mouthfuls, Saosin heard another horse approaching the fields.
With only a quick glance, Saosin could tell it was his deputy, Scorpion. He would know the horse anywhere; there were many distinct features which helped to tell him apart. Most obviously was his tail--the black scorpion tail that suited his name so very well. Honestly, Saosin considered the male his friend. He didn't have many of them; he didn't seem to have the time to make any. With Scorpion his deputy, it was easy to chat.
Saosin made his way towards the male, a smile on his face. "Hello, Scorpion!" He greeted his deputy warmly. "How are you today?"

Scorpion instantly noticed the sunny hide of his leader, his ears swiveling forward. Changing direction, he came to a stop a small reach away from the other stallion, gently bumping his muzzle into the buckskin's shoulder in friendly greeting.
"Saosin. Good to see you out in the sunlight." he murmured, reaching down to steal a mouthful of grass before returning the stallion's gaze once more. His voice was deep and like granite, but had a sort of soothing edge to it that kept it from being very dark. It did, however, have the sort of tone known to induce intimidation to lesser beings.
Scorpion's empty eyes watched his leader warmly. He knew they had both been working hard the past week or so, and he expected that his partner was just as worn and saturated as he was. But Saosin shared the passion Scorpion had of putting their people before themselves. Too bad it was so draining.

"Saosin. Good to see you out in the sunlight."
Saosin nodded, it sure was good. He'd been holed up inside the castle for who knows how long. It'd been a while since he had been able to stretch his legs and run. Before coming to the fields, he had actually taken a short run. Saosin felt much better now, though he wouldn't admit it--he wouldn't admit that being cooped up inside irritated him. After all, he was still a young horse, and needed his exercise.
"And you as well," Saosin grinned. His deputy had been inside with him, helping out and doing some of his own duties. Though being leader was tiring, Saosin enjoyed it. He liked the authority, the responsibility. Growing up how he did, Saosin figured he'd be pretty miserable not being leader. He knew now that his grandfather had always wanted this future for him. Whether that was because he was greedy or wanted someone to be proud of, Saosin didn't care. Plus there was no way to ask; the horse was dead. Burying his thoughts, Saosin tossed his head before speaking again.
"It's a beautiful day, isn't it? Quite refreshing." He mused, looking at the sky behind Scorpion. It's a nice color, Saosin thought to himself rather childishly, You don't see that color anywhere but the sky. Saosin, though he probably hadn't told anyone, loved the sky. When he was younger, before his ambition to be leader developed, he'd wished he was a bird. Wouldn't that be amazing, being able to fly in the sky? Appearing nothing more than a speck in the sky, and able to see for miles...if Saosin wasn't a horse, he would be a bird for sure.
He almost chuckled out loud--why in the world was Saosin thinking about what his foal-self had thought about? Shaking the thoughts away, Saosin turned his head back to Scorpion, giving the horse his attention.
