Scars: Ocuilin has the typical collection of scars that any other slave would possess, though perhaps most noticeable is a large circular scar on his left hip, marking him as a slave of the Ouroboros clan.

History: Ocuilin’s mother was the favorite slave of the head of a jaguar line that had become known as the Ouroboros. The Ouroboros, a family founded by a jaguar who had briefly been king, was a proud, vicious line who had been known as fierce warriors and consorts of royalty. Over the last few generations, however, their greatness degenerated, and today’s members of the clan are shadows of what the family once was. The current head, a male named Colotl, had been a warrior worthy of his ancestor’s name in his younger years, but after being half-blinded in a battle with the Equine Kingdom he ‘retired’ and focused on domestic affairs.
Ocuilin’s mother, Cihtli, was seen as Colotl’s ‘favorite’ for her beauty and grace, accompanying him on public outings like a well-trained pet and rarely straying far from him. While he saw her as little more than a pretty doll to keep close, she was also clever, listening in on conversations between Colotl and other high-ranking cats, sharing that information gleaned from eavesdropping with those she favored, manipulating Colotl to her will. She was in this advantageous position for four years.
Unfortunately, Cihtli made two mistakes almost simultaneously: first, she was caught by Colotl’s mate divulging information to a jaguar who she hoped would buy and free her. Finally, and perhaps her greatest mistake, she fell in love with another slave and became pregnant.
She was punished, of course, and once her cub was born she was sold off. The cub – named ‘Ocuilin,’ or ‘worm’ – was kept, as Colotl’s mate had finally given him an heir about the same age who would need a playmate and later a servant. Ocuilin thus avoided much of the cruelty that other slaves suffered and thus grew to be naïve, trusting, and perhaps ignorant, fed by tales of greatness that the Ouroboros had once possessed and fantasizing of earning it back again.
